Dragonfly Cuff
Artist: Mitchell Zephier - Sicangu Oyate Lakota
This cuff bracelet has been hand-made with mostly german silver. There are two eagles on each side that lay on copper. The medicine wheels are outlined in gold with black pipestone, red pipestone, mother of pearl, and sand stone inlaid to represent the colors of the medicine wheel. The cuff measures 1.75 inches wide with 6.75 inches in diameter, including gap.
The meaning of the dragonfly symbol was to signify happiness, speed, and purity. The dragonfly also represents transformation and life's ever constant process of change.
The medicine wheel is a sacred symbol used by Plains tribes and others to represent all knowledge of the universe. It is representative of the four directions, the four seasons, the four elements and the four stages of life: childhood, adolescence, adulthood and old age.
