Tipi Scene Parfleche Earrings
Artist: Mike Marshall, Sicangu Lakota
These earrings have been handmade with parfleche. Mike has hand painted a tipi sceen on these striking earrings. If you are looking to make a statement these are earrings for you as they measure 4 inches from the top of the hook to the bottom of the earring...and they are 2 1/4 inches wide.
Parfleche is an untanned animal hide, originally made from buffalo, soaked in lye and water to remove the hair and then dried on a stretcher. From the Plains throughout the Northwest, Native Americans used parfleche to produce shields, drums, and most often carrying cases. Such cases were called "parfleches."
