Painted Sturgeon Drum
Artist: Jim Bruce - Enrolled member of the Yankton Sioux Tribe

This drum has been hand-made with rawhide with a hand-painted sturgeon and turtles on it. It measures 12 inches in diameter with a 12 inch drum stick included.

Hand drums are among the most common Native American drums. The drum shape is symbolic, as the circle stands for the circle of earth and life. The drums are made of rawhide that has been stretched and then formed. Native Americans are known for using everything they could from an animal. They painted on the drums for whatever they felt connected to at the time.

The spirit of the turtle (keya) teaches us patience to help others; determination to accomplish your goals; and ability to be strong during difficult times. Turtle goes inside his shell, to show us to reflect and improve the inner you.
