Lakota Grieving: A Pastoral Response
Author: Fr. Stephen Huffstetter, SCJ
Cover Art by: Daniel Long Solider, Oglala Lakota

Lakota Grieving explores the grieving practices and rituals of the Lakota Catholics on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation in South Dakota. The author, a Roman Catholic priest engaged in ministry on the reservation, proposes that Lakota people have taken rituals from both their Lakota and Christian traditions and created a merged culture to meet their grieving needs. Ethnographic interviews with the Lakota provide an overview of current grieving practices on the reservation.
