Peji h'ota, Sage (Artemisia ludoviciana)
Sage is a common medicine used by all the Plains tribes, it is burned for incense and purification and is used in practically every ceremony. Made of traditional sagebrush from the prairies of South Dakota, this sage swag is tied with ribbons representing the four sacred directions. In worship, the Native American people are attentive to the Four Directions. When praying, they face each direction successively, beginning with the west.
